Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max: "Affordable Luxury"

Chery Automobile Co. Ltd., more commonly known as Chery, is a car manufacturing company from China that has been exporting passenger vehicles since 2001. Reports indicate that Chery Auto South Africa sold 1 502 units in March 2023 in the South African market. 

As much as a few Chinese car manufacturers are relaxed, Chery it isn't, and this has made me to change my mind about their products.

WHAT DOES THE TIGGO 8 PRO MAX COME WITH?

Up front you have a new grille that features an illuminated Chery logo that uses an array of LED lights to come to life and light up. It is combined with a special light-up sequence of the LED Matrix headlamps and LED daytime running lights to create a unique visual signature.

At the rear, “the coming to life” LED light show continues as the completely redesigned light clusters are connected by a LED light bar. This allows the rear lights to light up from the center light bar to the lower edges of the tail lamps during the start-up sequence.

From the interior you will be welcomed by:

• Revised door trims
• Redesigned fascia and centre console
• 24.6-inch curved dual screen instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen
• Surround-view HD camera system
• 8-speaker Sony audio system
• Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto
• Updated satnav (now available in offline mode)
• Electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated seats (6-way for the driver, with memory function)
• New gear lever 
• Fast wireless phone charging pad 

The overall design of the dashboard and doors has been changed or upgraded with soft touch leather and wood grain patterns and silver finishing.

The Tiggo 8 Pro Max is also equipped with features such as:

• Adaptive cruise control (as opposed to its sibling’s conventional cruise control)
• Forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking
• Lane departure warning and keeping assist.
• Intelligent high-beam control 
• Traffic congestion assist and a driving view recorder (DVR)

Apart from ABS with EBD, electronic stability control and a tyre-pressure monitoring system, the Tiggo 8 Pro Max comes fitted with numerous airbags, dual front, -side and curtain airbags, as well as driver’s knee and 2nd-row bolster seat airbag. Other items in the safety suite include:

• Parking sensors front and rear
• Blind-spot monitoring 
• Rear cross-traffic alert

With third row seats down, the boot space is a massive 2101L, and even with these rear seats raised for the maximum seven-person occupancy, the boot space is still a very generous 1179L.

DRIVING THE TIGGO 8 PRO MAX

Engine: Under the bonnet is a turbocharged 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder powerplant (mated with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission) that produces peak outputs of 187 kW/390 Nm and has a quad-exhaust configuration. Chery claims that this car will do 0-100Km/h in just 0.9 Seconds and can do a Max speed of 200km/h.

Fuel Consumption: Chery also claims that the Tiggo 8 Pro Max will only consume 7L/100km in a combined usage cycle.
